Portable dry powder extinguisher

English operating and maintenance guidance for handheld ABC dry powder extinguishers used in offices, hotels, malls, industrial plants, vehicles and general commercial sites.

Operating Method

  1. Carry the extinguisher to a safe upwind position near the fire.
  2. Pull out the safety pin and keep the cylinder upright.
  3. Aim the nozzle or hose at the base of the flame.
  4. Press the handle to discharge the ABC dry powder agent.
  5. Sweep the discharge stream across the fire base until the fire is extinguished.

Product overview and application

Portable ABC dry powder extinguishers are intended for first-response fire fighting. They are suitable for initial Class A, Class B and Class C fires and may be used around energized electrical equipment when the operator keeps a safe distance and follows the product label.

  • Typical locations include homes, offices, hotels, shopping areas, workshops and warehouses.
  • The extinguisher is designed for trained initial response, not for large or spreading fires.
  • For electrical incidents, disconnect power as soon as it is safe after extinguishment.

Main structure and working principle

The unit is composed of a cylinder, valve head, pressure indicator, discharge hose or nozzle, ABC dry powder agent and driving gas. When the safety pin is removed and the handle is pressed, the valve opens and the pressurized driving gas expels the powder through the nozzle.

  • The pressure indicator must remain in the normal zone before use.
  • The ABC powder stream forms a cloud over the flame base to interrupt combustion.
  • Do not modify the valve, pressure gauge, cylinder or discharge assembly.

Storage and routine inspection

Store the extinguisher in a dry, accessible and clearly marked position away from corrosive gases, rain, direct sun exposure and high temperature.

  • Check the pressure indicator, safety pin, seal, hose and cylinder appearance regularly.
  • Keep the operating instructions and label legible.
  • Remove from service if the cylinder is damaged, corroded, leaking or outside the pressure range.

Service and Maintenance Checks

  • Send units requiring repair to the manufacturer or an authorized maintenance organization.
  • Before disassembly, confirm that the extinguisher has no internal pressure.
  • Inspect the cylinder, valve, pressure indicator, siphon tube, nozzle and hose before reassembly.
  • Perform hydrostatic testing where required by the nameplate, GB50444 and local regulation.
  • Replace seals, gaskets and other consumable sealing parts during service.
  • Recharge only with approved ABC dry powder agent and the specified driving gas.

Important Safety Notes

  • Do not operate the extinguisher upside down.
  • During discharge, keep the cylinder tilt within 45 degrees from vertical.
  • For energized equipment fires, keep at least 1 m distance and disconnect power after the fire is controlled.
  • Do not expose the extinguisher to impact, unauthorized heating or unauthorized refilling.
